What to expect from InsideTracker
As part of the process we will collect some information from you. The information collected will include general contact information, age, gender, general health information, including information about your diet, vitamins and supplements you take, your physical activities and other important details about yourself.
After registration, you will be directed to one of our partner blood testing locations, where you will have your blood drawn and analyzed. Alternatively, you may choose to have your blood drawn at home or at your office. You may be required to present proof of identification at the time of the blood draw. A relatively small amount (not more than 35 ml) of blood will be taken from your arm with a syringe and needle. Your blood sample will then be tested for a number of select vitamins, minerals and metabolites (biomarkers) that will indicate your nutritional and physical fitness status. Your blood test results will be reviewed by a licensed physician. You may also choose to upload to InsideTracker your recent blood test results from your doctor or insurance company. Your blood profile will be analyzed using an Expert System that produces the personalized optimal zones, information and recommendations. These will then be available online for you to follow for the next weeks and months. In the rare event that the physician review of your blood test results indicates a potential medical problem requiring immediate attention you will be notified and advised to contact your primary care doctor.
When you or a company with your authorization provides a set of your DNA (Genetic) information to InsideTracker, an Expert System will analyze your data to determine your genetic potential for certain traits related to healthy aging, nutrition and performance. One example of these traits might be your potential to do better with endurance activities, such as running, compared to power activities, such as weight lifting. Another genetic trait that InsideTracker analyzes is your potential for gluten intolerance, which refers to your potential to have trouble digesting foods containing gluten, such as wheat. It is important to remember that many other factors, such as your diet, exercise and lifestyle will affect your athletic performance, your digestion, and other traits analyzed by InsideTracker.
InsideTracker does not provide any genetic analysis of your ancestry or your risk of disease.
If you participate in the InsideTracker services, potential benefits may include better nutritional and physical fitness. Your blood test results reveal the current status of important biomarkers in your blood, which can indicate your overall wellness. For example, your level of Ferritin, a marker of iron in the body, may be below optimal for you. You might start eating more iron-rich foods so that you increase your ferritin level and have more energy and endurance.
The purpose of your genetic analysis is to reveal your genetic potential for certain well-studied traits related to healthy aging, nutrition and athletic performance. Knowing your potential can help you to reach your goals. For example, you may have the potential for lower Vitamin D, which is important for healthy bones and a strong immune system. As a result, you might look for ways to improve your vitamin D. You may also find that you have potential to do better at power-type exercises, such as weight lifting. You might then decide to add these exercises to your workout.
Be aware that although you may have a higher genetic potential for a trait, you may not have that trait. For example, you might have higher genetic potential to gain excess weight, but you may weigh a normal amount. Other factors such as your exercise, what you eat, where you live, and your lifestyle habits play important roles in determining whether your genetic potential is realized.
Your InsideTracker genetic analysis is based on only a small portion of your genes related to fitness and wellbeing traits. Therefore, it may not be the full story of your genetic potential.
Your analysis may show that you have the potential for a certain trait, but in most cases does not guarantee that you will have that trait. Your lifestyle, environment, physical activity and diet, and many other factors can play major roles in whether you have or will develop a trait.
Not all genetic variants and their effects will apply to every person in every condition. Many research studies on genetics do not include all ethnic and racial groups and may include only one sex. For this reason, some of our analysis and recommendations may not apply to you.
Genetics is a new field, and there is much that is unknown. InsideTracker analysis is based on extensive, peer-reviewed studies. However, future discoveries may change our understanding of how your DNA may affect you.
Although the risks and discomforts associated with a blood test are very low, you might be at risk for excessive bleeding, fainting, or feeling light-headed, hematoma (blood accumulating under the skin) or infection (a slight risk any time the skin is broken). While the possibility of this happening is very small, you should still be aware of the possibility. If you feel discomfort or other symptoms, tell the person drawing your blood right away.
InsideTracker may advise you to have a follow up with your doctor after reviewing the results of your blood test. As a result, you may learn about health conditions and problems or potential health problems that you were not aware of before your participation in the InsideTracker Services. You may experience stress, anxiety, or emotional or physical discomfort when you learn about health problems or potential health problems.
In addition, you could have a disease or condition even though your blood test results are in the normal range. You could have blood test results outside the normal range and still not have a disease or condition. Blood test results outside the normal range, though, could lead to additional cost or discomfort if your doctor orders follow-up tests.
The InsideTracker genetic service is not a genetic diagnosis of disease, and it is not intended to identify any medical conditions. It does not provide any guarantee, medical diagnosis or specific medical advice.
Some questions and pieces of information collected as part of InsideTracker may make you feel uncomfortable.
There may be other risks to participation that no one can foresee.
Recommendations provided to you by InsideTracker as a result of blood or genetic analysis may or may not be beneficial to you. You are following these recommendations at your own risk. If at any time during the follow-up period you feel unwell or ill, you should seek medical help right away and discontinue InsideTracker recommendations.
